4th Grade Homework Policy
A pivotal part of our students’ 4th grade experience is homework. The 4th grade team has a uniform homework policy that aligns with WCPSS policy.
The purpose of assigned homework in 4th grade is to see how well students independently demonstrate skills taught. It is intended to reinforce concepts taught each day, as well as to provide opportunities for students to enhance their time management skills. We use student work performance to help drive our instruction and provide extra support for students when needed.
Some Things to Know…
Ø Students are provided with a homework agenda on their first day of school. They are expected to copy down the homework daily. Please sign their agenda nightly.
Ø Homework is assigned each day based on the standards covered during class, except for projects.
Ø All projects will have due dates and rubrics for grading. There may be an in-class assignment that correlates with student projects.
Ø Students are highly encouraged to bring their appropriate notebooks home each night to help with completing their nightly assignments.
Ø Students are expected to spend 20 minutes each night reading and responding to text read and an additional 40 minutes for all other subjects. Please be prepared for your fourth grader to spend at least one hour every night on homework.
Ø Grades for report cards will come from teacher observations, classwork, formal and informal assessments ONLY.
